LegalShield provides direct access to a dedicated provider law firm who can review and prepare legal documents such as Wills and assist with other personal legal matters such as speeding tickets, neighbor disputes and family related matters such as adoption.

Enrollment

When you enroll, you are enrolling for the full plan year and must remain in the plan until the next annual enrollment period.

  • Who is the provider?

    Plan participants are assigned a dedicated provider law firm based on their geographic location. Coverage is only provided through LegalShield Provider Lawyers. You will recieve your provider law firm's contact information when your benefit becomes effectve. You can call your law firm directly using the LegalShield mobile app and/or submit a request for consultation using the mobile app or the online web portal. All legal matters are handled 100% in network and there are no claim forms to fill out or call center to navigate though.

  • Who is covered?

    The LegalShield Plan covers the participant (employee), participant’s spouse, and dependent children under 26 years of age.
  • When can I enroll?

    As a new hire, you can enroll during your new hire enrollment period. Outside of your new hire enrollment period, enrollment is limited to a qualified life event or the voluntary open enrollment period.
  • After enrolling how can I start to use this benefit?

    LegalShield will send you a member number and instructions on how to create your account along with contact information for your dedicated provider law firm when your plan becomes effective. You will need this member number to create your LegalShield account on access.legalshield.com. You will be asked to create a username and password.

     

    Once you have created your account, you can download the LegalShield mobile app and use your created login credentials to sign in. With LegalShield's mobile app you can schedule a consultation with your provider law firm to discuss your personal legal matter.

  • How do you download the LegalShield app?

    The LegalShield mobile app is available for download on both Apple and Android devices. Once downloaded you will be asked to login, to login you will use the account username and password you created when setting up your account at mylegalshield.com.
  • Are Pre-existing legal matters covered?

    Pre-existing legal matters are covered if they fall within the scope of covered services and if you have not represented yourself in the matter, the court involved is still within the original jurisdiction and an attorney-client relationship did not already exist prior to enrollment. Specific stipulations may also apply, depending on the specifics of the legal matter.
  • How do I cancel or change my membership?

    You can only cancel your membership at your company’s next open enrollment.

    *Please note a dependent cannot call in and make changes to coverage.

  • What happens to my coverage if I terminate employment?

    Upon termination, participants will receive information from LegalShield with options and instructions for continuing coverage directly with LegalShield. Coverage options and monthly costs will be the same as the current group plan and rate. If coverage is not continued, benefits will end 45 days after employment is terminated.
  • What is considered a legal emergency?

    The participant receives toll-free telephone access to the provider law firm on a 24 hour per day basis- by calling 1-877-825-3797 for the following covered emergencies:

     

    1. Anytime the participant is in the presence of a law enforcement officer that may detain him/her.
    2. Anytime the participant is in the presence of a law enforcement officer or agency representative who is attempting to take away the participant’s child(ren).
    3. If the participant is involved in an accident that results in bodily harm or physical injury.
    4. The participant is being served with a warrant.
